Our cafeteria is conveniently located on the ground floor near the main entrance. We serve a variety of healthful meals seven days a week. We also provide room service to patients so that they can select and order the entrees they want. All of the meals are in keeping with diets prescribed by physicians. Visitors are welcome to dine in our café, which features a pizza oven, a fresh soup and salad bar, a grill and deli station.
Cardiac Cath Lab
In our modern cath lab, an experienced and highly trained staff and cardiologists perform diagnostic and interventional procedures such as stenting to open narrowed or blocked arteries.
Cardiopulmonary Rehab
Cardiopulmonary rehabilitation, or rehab for short, is a medically supervised program that aids in the recovery of cardiac and pulmonary patients by improving their physical, mental and social functioning. Patients regain their strength and confidence when they exercise under the watchful eyes of the cardiopulmonary rehab staff. The space is filled with natural light, quotes meant to inspire, and a beach scene that uplifts and encourages patients to get back into the swing of things.
Hematology Oncology
Johnston Health Hematology Oncology is the result of a unique collaboration with Duke University Medical Center to provide the latest therapies and treatments for patients with cancer and blood-related diseases. Patients receive treatment in the comfort of our spacious infusion room, with seating for friends and family and nurses close by.
Imaging - MRI
Our wide-bore magnet can accommodate bariatric patients and those who feel anxious in tight spaces. During the exam, patients can listen to the music of their choosing. And to accommodate busy lives, we are open from 7 a.m. till 7 p.m. Monday through Friday. Our technologists are ARRT certified and our department is ACR accredited. Our department can perform a variety of exams including angiography.
Johnston Medical Mall
The Johnston Medical Mall is located across the street from Johnston Health in Smithfield and is home to a variety of outpatient practices. After operating as a textile mill for 88 years, a $15 million renovation in 2003 transformed the building into the Johnston Medical Mall.
Joint Center Rehab Room
Within hours following their joint replacement surgery, patients are brought to the rehab room to begin their recovery. The room allows access to a hydraulic therapy mat, parallel bars, stairs, car simulator to practice getting in and out of cars and a mock-up kitchen area for practice and training.
Labor & Delivery
The birth of your child is the most special time of your life. And the patient rooms in the women’s center are designed to give mothers and their families the best possible birthing experience. Moms can both deliver and recover in the same room, which also has special accommodations for the newborn. In addition to the 32-inch flat screen TVs, the rooms have iPod connections with speakers so that moms can listen to the music of their choice. For the comfort of overnight guests, all of the L&D suites have
pull-down beds.
Main Entrance
Welcome to Johnston Health Clayton! With the opening of our three-story wing in January 2015, we are offering inpatient care and new services such as labor and delivery. Our new wing is designed for comfort. All 50 patient rooms are private and have flat screen TVs, large windows to the outdoors and en suite bathrooms designed with safety in mind.
Main Lobby
When they arrive, patients and visitors may check in with our friendly volunteers or registration staff. From the lobby, visitors can easily find public restrooms, the volunteer gift shop and elevators to patient rooms. There’s also a cafeteria and dining area. Visitors are welcome to sit in the courtyard gardens just outside the atrium.
Operating Room
At Johnston Health, we are committed to providing the latest and best equipment for surgery, including a da Vinci Surgical Robot System. This state-of-the-art technology provides a minimally-invasive alternative to open surgery and laparoscopy for complex procedures, causing less pain, reducing infection risk, and providing better clinical outcomes.
Patient Room
Our 50 private inpatient rooms are designed with safety and comfort in mind. The women’s center on the first floor has eight spacious suites where moms can both deliver and recover; the adjoining hallway has 12 smaller acute care rooms. On the second floor, specially trained nurses take care of patients who need more intensive care. These eight spacious rooms are large enough to accommodate family members who wish to sit and spend time with their loved ones. There are 24 rooms on the third floor, where the staff cares for both surgical and medical patients. All of the rooms have 32-inch flat screen TVs, couches, en suite bathrooms and large windows.
Patient Room
A new patient tower built in 2009 offers 101 private suites for inpatients. These modern rooms offer a private bathroom, plenty of space for visitors and a futon for overnight guests.
Radiation Oncology
Johnston Health is proud to partner with UNC REX Healthcare to offer radiation oncology services and cutting-edge, comprehensive cancer care at our center in Smithfield. We use the latest technologies such as our linear accelerator to provide a broad scope of services and the highest quality of care to our patients.
Rehab Services
Johnston Health’s rehab services provides evaluations and treatments devoted to maximizing recovery and optimizing functional abilities for patients after injury, surgery, illness, long-term disability or other debilitating conditions. Our specialties include physical, aquatic, occupational and speech therapy.
Therapeutic Wound Center
The Johnston Health Therapeutic Wound Center provides patients with state-of-the-art treatment for wounds that have resisted healing despite months, or even years, of conventional treatment. Our center offers many treatment options including two hyperbaric oxygen chambers.

Emergency Department
Our 24/7 emergency department is chest-pain certified, which means our staff and medical providers are giving patients a chance for the best possible outcome and recovery from sudden heart attacks. All of our emergency medicine providers are board certified. Our staff’s main focus is on giving patients the best possible care and as quickly and efficiently as possible. In fact, it usually takes less than 30 minutes after arrival to see a medical provider. During the wait in the reception area, take time to check out the colorful paintings of birch trees. With guidance from two retired art teachers, our department staff painted these two paintings prior to the ED’s opening in October 2009.
Operating Room
We have three spacious operating rooms fitted with the latest technology. We also have a separate room for endoscopies. With our transition from an outpatient surgical center to a full-service hospital, we’re now offering more types of surgeries. In addition to general surgeries, we offer GYN, ophthalmology, orthopedics, ENT, vascular, urology, and podiatry.
