2 Year Old Room

We have so much fun learning! In our 2 year old classroom the children are taught through play with teacher interaction. Curriculum is used to plan our weekly themes which are implemented daily through our Circle and Center time. They can choose to play and use their imagination in any of our centers. These centers include: Art, Music, Dramatic Play, Science/Discovery, Books, Manipulative, Blocks, and a Reading Center. Children also learn fine/gross motor, language/literacy, cognitive, social/emotional and important self help skills throughout the day. Potty Training is one of our main goals in our classroom.

We love communicating with our parents to let them know about their child’s emerging skills.

3 Year Old Room

Welcome to the Terrific Threes! Children develop many skills during their third year. They learn how to get along with others and to take care of themselves independently. They also begin to master new cognitive and language concepts. Curriculum which is aligned with the Common Core and age appropriate educational activities are more challenging in our classroom. Our classroom is divided into twelve learning centers (art, dramatic play, blocks, music, computers, sensory, writing, library, etc.) In these centers children will learn developmental skills through free play as well as teacher directed activities. Our room is equipped with two computers to enhance our curriculum through technology. In circle time we review our ABC’s, numbers, colors, shapes, month of the year, days of the week, weather, weekly theme, phonics, letter recognition as well as classroom rules and expectations.

4 Year Old Room

In our PreK classroom, the curriculum continues to build on challenging and age appropriate activities that develop the whole child and to prepare the child for kindergarten. Lesson plans are aligned with State Kindergarten Readiness skills and standards set forth by Foundations for Preschool and SACS. Computers are used to integrate the curriculum with lesson plans. The children are also exposed to the use of hand-held Tablets thus expanding their knowledge of technology. Small groups provide individualized attention. The Classroom is divided into Centers where the child can explore and expand their knowledge. Aerobics is offered during the week and music (Kristal Bells – hand bells) is offered daily.

Activity Area

The Activity Area room consists of a Library, Mothers room, Infant/Toddler Room for small gathering, Meeting room for therapist, and a Conference Room. We have a very active Parent Advisory Committee that meets monthly in the Conference area. The purpose of the PAC is to have an active role in the policies, procedures, and ongoing growth of the Early Learning Center. All parents of the Center are automatically members. We encourage parents to become active in our PAC.

Cardiac Cath Lab

In our modern cath lab, an experienced and highly trained staff and cardiologists perform diagnostic and interventional procedures such as stenting to open narrowed or blocked arteries.

Cardiopulmonary Rehab

Cardiopulmonary rehabilitation, or rehab for short, is a medically supervised program that aids in the recovery of cardiac and pulmonary patients by improving their physical, mental and social functioning. Patients regain their strength and confidence when they exercise under the watchful eyes of the cardiopulmonary rehab staff. The space is filled with natural light, quotes meant to inspire, and a beach scene that uplifts and encourages patients to get back into the swing of things.

Hematology Oncology

Johnston Health Hematology Oncology is the result of a unique collaboration with Duke University Medical Center to provide the latest therapies and treatments for patients with cancer and blood-related diseases. Patients receive treatment in the comfort of our spacious infusion room, with seating for friends and family and nurses close by.

Infant & Toddler Room

Believe it or not, children begin learning at birth! It is for this reason that we provide a curriculum specifically designed for infants and toddlers for their individual needs; however, most of all we provide a loving and nurturing environment for the children. We give specialized care and attention that help develop the foundations for language and learning. Our toddler program provides a wide variety of activities which also help to develop fine and gross motor skills, communications and socialization skills.

Johnston Medical Mall

The Johnston Medical Mall is located across the street from Johnston Health in Smithfield and is home to a variety of outpatient practices. After operating as a textile mill for 88 years, a $15 million renovation in 2003 transformed the building into the Johnston Medical Mall.

Joint Center Rehab Room

Within hours following their joint replacement surgery, patients are brought to the rehab room to begin their recovery. The room allows access to a hydraulic therapy mat, parallel bars, stairs, car simulator to practice getting in and out of cars and a mock-up kitchen area for practice and training.

Operating Room

At Johnston Health, we are committed to providing the latest and best equipment for surgery, including a da Vinci Surgical Robot System. This state-of-the-art technology provides a minimally-invasive alternative to open surgery and laparoscopy for complex procedures, causing less pain, reducing infection risk, and providing better clinical outcomes.

Patient Room

A new patient tower built in 2009 offers 101 private suites for inpatients. These modern rooms offer a private bathroom, plenty of space for visitors and a futon for overnight guests.

Radiation Oncology

Johnston Health is proud to partner with UNC REX Healthcare to offer radiation oncology services and cutting-edge, comprehensive cancer care at our center in Smithfield. We use the latest technologies such as our linear accelerator to provide a broad scope of services and the highest quality of care to our patients.

Welcome to Johnston Health Early Learning Center!

Johnston Health Early Learning Center, a 5 STAR center, is an educational based full day childcare preschool which provides a nurturing environment for children six weeks to five years of age. The program, based on age appropriate, developmentally and educational practices provides a literacy based curriculum for instructional use for the children. Character development is also incorporated into each classroom where appropriate. Classrooms are equipped with computers and software that integrate the curriculum with learning centers. The Center and grounds are equipped with state-of-art security systems. The Center follows the voluntary enhanced standards for staff, ratios and quality. The Center is accredited by Southern Association for Colleges and Schools (SACS).

Rehab Services

Johnston Health’s rehab services provides evaluations and treatments devoted to maximizing recovery and optimizing functional abilities for patients after injury, surgery, illness, long-term disability or other debilitating conditions. Our specialties include physical, aquatic, occupational and speech therapy.

Therapeutic Wound Center

The Johnston Health Therapeutic Wound Center provides patients with state-of-the-art treatment for wounds that have resisted healing despite months, or even years, of conventional treatment. Our center offers many treatment options including two hyperbaric oxygen chambers.

Playground

The playground is divided into age appropriate sections and is also utilized as an early learning classroom environment. The learning centers are covered by shade structures to provide coverage for the children. Playground equipment is securely anchored and is placed on poured-in-place cushioning that reduces the impact of falls for children. Paths for riding Tricycles, wagons, etc. are provided. A basketball court enriches the environment by providing an area for playing basketball and games. The Center also uses the Gym at the Medical Mall for the Preschool children where Aerobics and free play are offered to the children.

Women’s Pavilion Postpartum Room

After giving birth, you will be moved to one of our 16 postpartum rooms. Each room has a private bathroom and shower, and seating for your visitors. You can have meals delivered right to your room, and our lactation consultant is available to help you with successful breastfeeding.
